Derek has over 30 years extensive operational and advisory experience working with organisations to achieve the desired goals; agreed strategies, business models, market growth, profitability and improving customer relationships. He has worked in various sectors, predominately manufacturing, retail, services and health in various sizes from SME’s to multi-nationals with businesses based on B2B and B2C models. Derek started his career as a Chartered Management Accountant working in Mergers and Acquisitions, Financial Controller and Director working in both the UK & USA before moving into Business Change and transformation, applying Business Improvement and specialised Business Recovery techniques within organisations at senior levels.
At Derek’s core is the passion to create the environment that helps people to consider thinking in different ways, to make work experiences better for all;, employees, customers and suppliers and to provide tools needed to achieve this.
Derek is keen on working with teams to re-structure their Business Models where required, challenging the accepted cultures where necessary, to achieve the required results, the mantra of “data-driven and measurements led” is a key foundation to Derek’s motivation.

Rapid Business Growth
Working with Cordell Health, one of the UK’s largest independent Occupational Health providers based in the South of England, Derek developed a 3 year Business strategy for growth and was the architect behind the Business Model necessary to drive rapid growth both organically and through strategic acquisitions. Derek organised the sources of finance through his network to enable this to happen. More recently designed the contingency plans and the recovery plans thereafter to enable the Business to cope with the effects of Covid-19 and the strategy to grow rapidly after the necessary restrictions have been lifted.
As Managing Director for Survey Roofing Group, the UK’s largest provider of commercial roofing services who were making significant losses prior to his appointment, he was charged with the organisation’s recovery in short order. Working with the team turned the business from loss making to profitable within 6 months, with a strategy of re-structuring the Business Model and the company’s value proposition combined with a rapid control over cash management and the introduction of up to date IT systems, including mobile working and drone technology.
Improving Business Performance
As the Business Improvement Executive, Derek worked with a £180 million Service subsidiary with BAE Systems PLC, with the objective of moving to a more customer-led organisation, with a consistently reliable delivery and implementing a cultural change programme promoting a culture of continuous improvement, critical because it determined how fast any organisation can drive towards their chosen goals, empowering their employees and harnessing their creativity to deliver sustainable competitive advantage.
Key process improvements resulted in over 20% cost savings with demonstrable improvements in both staff and customer experiences. Derek’s key improvements were published and presented in an international forum to provide a platform to help other organisations and show what is possible in a relatively short timeframe.
